My Story

How Jesus transformed my life and why I started Walk in Renewal…

“That’s the beautiful thing about following Jesus – He has a way of taking lives we never imagined and transforming them for His glory.”

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d one day be writing these words. If you’d met me just a few years ago, you certainly wouldn’t have guessed I’d be here either. Yet by God’s grace, after surrendering my life to Jesus Christ, everything changed.

If you’d met me a few years ago, you wouldn’t have met someone who was searching for another religion or feeling spiritually empty. Quite the opposite. I considered myself deeply spiritual. I loved learning, asking questions, and pursuing what I believed was truth. I genuinely thought I’d found it.

Looking back, I can see that although I was feeding myself spiritually, it wasn’t with the Bread of Life. I had become full on what I can only describe as spiritual junk food, never realising there was a feast waiting for me in Jesus Christ.

I had no idea Jesus was standing at the door, patiently knocking, inviting me into relationship with Him.
Jesus says:
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:20)
Looking back, I can see that although I considered myself deeply spiritual, I wasn’t sitting at Christ’s table. I was feeding on a spirituality that felt loving, peaceful and full of light, yet it wasn’t leading me to Him.

That was one of the hardest truths for me to accept. Scripture tells us that “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14)

I always imagined deception would look obviously dark or evil. Instead, I discovered that the most convincing counterfeits are often those that resemble the truth. They borrow enough of what is good to feel familiar, while quietly leading us away from the One who is Truth.

Satan doesn’t need to invent an entirely new truth. He is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), and one of his oldest tactics is to distort what God has already said. From the Garden of Eden onward, the deception has often been subtle – not replacing God’s truth entirely, but twisting it just enough to lead people away from Him.

And then something strange started happening.

Around the same time, two seemingly small things collided.

My YouTube algorithm randomly showed me a testimony from someone who had left the New Age to follow Jesus.

Then my fiancé told me that his tattoo artist, John—a man I’d never even met—had started following Jesus too.

I honestly can’t remember which happened first. But I remember what happened inside me.

My curiosity went through the roof.

Why Jesus?

What had these people discovered that would make them leave everything they had believed behind and follow Him?

And if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love a rabbit hole. Give me something mysterious, controversial or potentially hidden beneath the surface and I want to investigate it for myself.

So Jesus Christ became my next investigation.

Who was He really?

Why did people believe He was the Messiah? Could the Bible actually be trusted? Did He really exist? Did He really die and rise from the dead? Was Christianity true—or was this simply another belief system people had been conditioned to accept?

I had questions.

Lots of them.

And initially, I wasn’t asking them because I wanted Christianity to be true. I was trying to pull it apart.

But I quickly realised something uncomfortable:

I had no leg to stand on.

I had opinions about Christianity, but I’d never actually investigated Christianity for myself.

I’d heard Bible stories as a small child, but I’d never sat down as an adult and read the Bible.

So I bought one.

I watched videos. I listened to testimonies. I researched. I questioned. I challenged. I went further and further down the rabbit hole of Jesus Christ.

Except this rabbit hole wasn’t doing what I expected it to do.

The more I investigated Him, the harder He became to dismiss.

And eventually I found myself facing a question that changed everything:

What if this is actually real?

What if Jesus really is the truth?

The strange thing is, if you had asked me what religion I was for most of my life, I probably would have told you I was a Christian.

But if you had asked me who Jesus was, I wouldn’t really have known what to tell you.

I had been christened as a baby, and somewhere along the way I had simply understood that to mean I was Christian. I knew Bible stories from childhood, but I didn’t know Jesus. I hadn’t read the Bible for myself. I wasn’t following Him.

As I got older, I found my own version of spirituality.

At the centre of it was love, and around that I collected beliefs from all sorts of places. I could believe several different things at the same time without seeing much contradiction between them. To me, they were different paths pointing towards the same deeper spiritual reality.

And I considered myself deeply spiritual.

That’s partly why what happened next surprised me so much.

Because when I eventually came to know Jesus, I didn’t feel as though I had abandoned spirituality for religion.

I discovered a spiritual reality more profound than anything I thought I had known before.

Everything I had been searching for—love, truth, meaning, connection with God—I had been trying to piece together for myself.

And then I encountered Jesus.
